Matthew was born and raised in the Province of Gauteng; Matthew took up tennis at the age of 7 after growing up watching his father play tennis from court-side.

Matthew attended high school at a prestigious school in Gauteng, King Edward VII, where he represented the 1st team in various school leagues and school tournaments. Matthew went on to receive sporting colours for his achievements and dedication in representing his school.

During his junior years Matthew trained at I-Tag Tennis Academy and later went on to train at Earl Granger Tennis Academy where he trained alongside some of the top Junior tennis players in South Africa.
Matthew represented his province(state) Gauteng on numerous occusions also represented his province in the Inter-Provincial Tournaments.

Out of the love and passion he has for the game, Matthew started his coaching career at I-Tag Tennis Academy to share his enjoyment in the game with players of all ages. Since Matthew has coached at Barry Oosthuizen Tennis Academy and SA Tennis Company working on the development of young juniors at school level.

Matthew has recently moved to Cape Town, where he has joined Sinnet International Tennis Academy team in working with and developing top National Junior players.
